About Us

Our Story

Gareth Roberts Opticians originally opened on Madoc Street in Llandudno in 1980. Gareth was young when he first opened the shop, with his mum working on reception to welcome people in. The shop eventually moved to 107 Mostyn Street, and then again to 111 Mostyn Street a few years later, which is where it is today.

With a kind and likeable personality, Gareth inspired the ethos of the shop, always giving the customer the best advice for their health, and providing the services that would benefit them. In 2018, Gareth retired leaving the practice to Rhodri, who had worked at the practice since 2006 when he was newly qualified. Gareth still pops in to the shop every now and then to visit the team.

The future of optometry looks bright for Wales, with an increased understandings of the roles optometrists play while working with hospital Ophthalmology departments when providing primary care. There has also been advancements in the technology we use as well as the treatment we deliver. This helps us provide you with better care and a better service.

Meet The Team

Rhodri Williams

Rhodri is the owner and principle optometrist of Gareth Roberts opticians, taking over from Gareth n 2018.

Rhodri speaks fluent Welsh and English, and can provide your eye tests and services in either language.

Rhodri studied at the University of Liverpool where he received his Physics Degree and Masters of Research. He went on to receive his Optometry Degree at UMIST in Manchester before joining Gareth Roberts in 2006 and has been with us since.

In his spare time, Rhodri keeps active, running and cycling in the hills of Eryri, wild swimming in the sea of the North Wales coast, and practicing Judo.

Colin Archer

Colin is our optical technician, dispenser and rimless spectacle expert. He studied at High Peak College in Buxton before receiving his qualifications in Optical Support and as an Optical Technician.

Colin has gained experience from a variety of places including Sinclair Optical, Slotts Optician, Vision Express, and Hoya Lens.

Outside of work, Colin’s passions lie in football. He’s a student of football and an ex-player. He currently manages the Llysfaen Lionesses and the grassroots Under-13s. He also plays chess, the piano and is a keen trapeze artist!

John Jones

John is a dispensing optician at Gareth Roberts opticians and has been with the team since 1986.

John joined the practice under Gareth, around six years after the shop first opened. In 1991, while at Gareth Roberts, John qualified as a dispensing optician and has been a long standing member of the team ever since.

Away from work, John loves walking and enjoys exploring the rural side of the UK. He has completed several sections of the southwest costal path as well as multiple National Trust locations throughout England and Wales.

Georgina Hall

Georgina is a trainee dispensing optician and has been working with us since December 2021.

She received her BSc degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Wales, Bangor and is currently training to be a Dispensing Optician at ABDO (Association of British Dispensing Opticians)

In her free time, Georgina spends a lot of time outdoors, whether that be walking in North Wales, or spending time on her allotment. She also enjoys listening to country music and practising yoga.

Katie Gough

Katie is our Administration officer, joining the practice in 2023.

She has a background in charity work, writing, childcare and retail management, and has also received her BA in Philosophy from Calvin College, Michigan, USA.

Katie has a passion for fiction, poetry and language in general. She also enjoys making art and learning new things. She also keeps active by hiking, enjoying the nature around her, and practising yoga.
